The Disability Impact Registry
The chaos in the US is leaving disabled people uncertain. The losses to their services and supports may happen eratically over the next few years. We seek to identify needs and coalesce support to take care of each other during this time.
About Our Project:
The future of essential support for disabled people in the US is facing uncertainty due to funding changes and unclear decision-making processes. These changes affect critical services, support systems, and opportunities for disabled individuals, as well as organizations serving them and research that benefits them.
These disruptions are happening unpredictably and affect people in different ways. Without clear documentation of what's being lost, we risk finding ourselves in a significantly deteriorated support landscape without understanding how we got there or what could have been done to prevent it.
Our Mission:
The Disability Impact Registry creates a centralized system to document these losses while connecting people to develop innovative solutions. By tracking what's being lost, we can better understand patterns, mobilize resources, and ensure the disabled community's needs remain visible and addressed.
How to Participate:
1. Share Your Experience
If you've experienced the loss of a service, support, assistive device, or opportunity due to funding changes or cuts, please complete our form. You can submit it multiple times as new situations arise. We encourage everyone connected to the disability community to contribute—disabled individuals, researchers, healthcare providers, non-profit organizations, and allies.
You Provide: A document of your experience and needs focused on things you’ve lost due to recent cuts to disability-related services
We Provide: An audience of people and organizations aiming to fill the gap created by recent cuts. This could be as small as connecting you to someone who no longer needs their device to as large-scale as new innovations, community support and non-profits that may emerge as a result of the information you share.
2. Stay Connected
Sign up for our weekly newsletter to receive anonymized updates on emerging patterns we're observing and opportunities to help. Innovators and aspiring non-profit founders will find valuable insights about genuine community needs that can guide their efforts.
3. Spread the Word
f you provide services to the disabled community, please share this resource widely. Ensuring all voices are represented helps us create a more comprehensive understanding of what's happening.
Our Commitment:
While the challenges ahead may be significant, by working together we can build a network of mutual support and innovative solutions. The Disability Impact Registry serves as both documentation of what's being lost and a catalyst for what we can create together.
